In all of our services, we seek to offer emotionally-focused, trauma-informed, compassionate care.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Is your relationship in distress?  Are you and your spouse getting caught in the same old pattern over and over again?  Let me help you!  At Gabrielle Cormier Counselling Centre, we use Dr. Sue Johnson’s model for couples therapy – Emotionally Focused Therapy.  We will work together to understand what happens when you and your spouse are in distress so that you can start to recognize your pattern when you are at home and then we can work together to change it.

While you wait:  Due to high need, I may not be able to see you right away.  While you wait, consider reading Dr. Sue Johnson’s book: Hold Me Tight.

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is an excellent therapy for treating a variety of issues including, PTSD, sexual trauma, anxiety, depression, attachment insecurity, etc.  Using dual-attention stimulation (back and forth motion) we can help the brain process through traumas and negative beliefs that have gotten stuck over time.  These stuck traumas greatly impact how we view ourselves and the world around us.  Our bodies can carry the impact of the trauma for many years (ie: nervous system dysregulation, increased heartrate, upset stomach, muscle tension, headaches, etc.).  With EMDR, we can help to release the physical stress from the body, while shifting the negative beliefs to a more positive belief.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS is a modality that teaches we are all made up of parts, kind of like a family.  We all have a ‘true self.’ As we go through difficult life experiences, some parts can get stuck in the trauma and feel burdened.  We call these ‘exiles.’  To help us survive, we develop protective parts called ‘Managers’ and ‘Firefighters.’  We use these parts to help us get through the day and to help us cope.  We will explore your internal system with curiosity and compassion in order to create more unity and peace within the system.

IFS helps us to get to know the various parts of ourselves, unburden the trauma, and allow our ‘true selves’ to lead.

Practicum Program

We have developed an Internship Program for your graduate-level counselling degree.

Our program has been carefully and thoughtfully curated to meet the supervision requirements for the University of New Brunswick’s M.Ed and Yorkville University’s MACP programs. We not only want you to learn the basic skills for being a counselling therapist, but also to feel confident and competent in your new role when you graduate.

If you are interested in being considered, please submit a copy of your resume.

Interviews will be scheduled in March/April 2024.
